Seeing Clearly
When we're looking to make sense of our lives, or performing our everyday tasks, the degree to which we're able to see honestly who we are, what we need to do and how we relate to the world, is the degree to which our minds are noisy or quiet. Any method, whether it's meditation or anything else, which helps us to look more honestly, with a quiet enough mind, a mind open to the present moment of reality without all the baggage already there, is revolutionary because it frees us from being controlled or manipulated.
The reason it's such a revolutionary act is because it enables and requires us to take full responsibility for who we are and what we do. We see clearly, like when Jesus said things like, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself," that it's not a moral preachment, it's not like to be a good boy or a good girl, love your neighbor as you love yourself. He's saying in essence, "If you could see what I see, if you could see how connected we are, if you could see the truth, instead of being so afraid, instead of being so desiring, if you could just see the truth, you would love your neighbor exactly as you love yourself, because your neighbor is yourself."
